Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has a philosophical approach to health that focuses on treating the cause and supporting the whole person. It uses herbs, good nutrition, lifestyle suggestions, and emotional support, bridging the gap between modern drugs and the human soul. All living creatures have evolved by adaptation to their environment. We have developed an incredible capacity for self-healing in conjunction with other life forms in our environment. Our bodies have an innate ability to heal given the right circumstances. Optimal health is often a matter of treating/removing the cause of the problem where possible, relieving the symptoms, and gently nudging the body towards good health. Health Blossoms treats people, not illnesses.

Comfrey 2

The natural approach is to treat the whole person right from the start, ideally to prevent health problems developing, then to nurture and nourish, to correct imbalances, to strengthen the body’s innate self-healing abilities, to gradually heal from the inside out, bringing the patient to a state of wholeness and blossoming health.

For instance, we know that exercise and a good diet help with both physical and mental health, but they may not be easy to maintain in the face of chronic illness, pain, stress and anxiety, or other health or social problems. And over a period of time, people who don’t eat well and don’t exercise enough gradually lose not just physical fitness but mental/emotional fitness too. Anxiety, fear and guilt are major demotivators! These can compound and lead to more negative effects including depression, reduced immunity, obesity, heart problems, increased risk of cancer, etc. Sometimes poor health can be attributed to things like chronic pain, genetics, autoimmune disorders, lack of awareness/education, or other (sometimes unknown) reasons, which may also need to be addressed before a long-term, realistic solution can be found. Sometimes lack of self-care can be both a cause and an effect of low energy, low mood, and low self-esteem. When these factors coincide to create serious health problems (as they usually do eventually!) a health crisis ensues, which is too often “treated” with antidepressants, weight loss tablets, painkillers, laxatives, sleeping pills and/or recreational drugs, all of which have other side effects which may also need treating. This kind of compound scenario, which is all too common, can take a long time to resolve – prevention is far better than a cure!

On the other hand, acute or short-term health problems may be much simpler to resolve, and the sooner you seek help the shorter your treatment is likely to be. Health Blossoms uses evidence-based, scientifically validated treatments and medicines, some of which have been used for thousands of years. It does not use homoeopathy, kinesiology, iridology, energy medicine, or any other New Age or scientifically unproven therapeutic modalities.
